Dr. Sundaram Natarajan, Padmashree Awardee (one of the highest civilian Award by the President of India), is an ophthalmologist who has dedicated his life for bringing back the light in the eyes. In 2002, he started a free clinic in Dharavi, which is the largest slum area in Mumbai, and treated more than 8000 people. He has also held free camps in various other suburbs of Mumbai like Mankhurd and Govandi, treating the economically poor. In 2013, he was awarded with Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour. In 2016, he also held camp in Kashmir region to operate and cure the victims of pellet gun firings. As of January 2019,he heads the Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Wadala, Mumbai.
