Francesco Marone Cinzano

His life is linked with the family’s longstanding tradition of winemaking which dates back to the XVII century. He began to study Economics at the University of Geneva but soon he opted to work for the famous Christie’s auction house – in the ancient silver department – shifting from Geneva to London. In 1981 he began his financial training at the Kidder Peabody Bank in New York to prepare himself for his involvement in the family company which took place in 1982 at Cinzano Australia. During his stay in Sidney, he worked in the financial department and in marketing, and in 1984, his father, Count Alberto Marone Cinzano, called him back to Europe in order to assist him in the negotiations with IDV and IFINT.
In 1988 he was assigned to Cinzano Spain where he remained for 3 years and then moved to Switzerland, in Geneva from 1990 to 1993. In 1992 he inherited from his father the Col d’Orcia estate and became Chairman of the company. Col d’Orcia, bought by Count Alberto in 1973, is located on the southern slope of the Montalcino territory, it is a small architectural gem set in a landscape of rare beauty and is one of the oldest companies of the area as its origins date back from the XVII century. In 1997 the Chilean wine adventure began and after careful researches made with Chilean and Italian experts, he decided upon an area where he felt there was a great potential to produce world-class wines with a great aging perspective: the Maule valley. In this land, rich in history and native vegetation Erasmo was born: a wine combining the best Andean land with ancient European tradition.
Francesco Marone Cinzano is then the heir of a secular familiar tradition, nowadays he carries on the activity and devotes himself to it. It’s a real passion that leads him to search for new solutions in order to better what already exists and to explore new frontiers following his forefather’s tradition. Now, looking at the future of Col d’Orcia and La Reserva de Caliboro, he is conscious that quality means evolution, research, and experimentation to find excellence and innovation.
