Uma Bardhan (born in 1945) is one of India’s contemporary female artists. Her paintings are usually themed on stories and positions which are under-represented in both mainstream and contemporary art culture. Her paintings are in several major collections in India & abroad. Her works have been hugely inspired by her formative years in Kolkata and her deep belief in spirituality. An alumnus of Birla Academy of Art & Culture under the tutelage of artists like Makhan Dutta Gupta and Maniklal Banerjee, Uma is one of the few artists who use ‘Water Color on Silk’. She has worked in other media, including oil on canvas. Bardhan has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in prominent galleries in India and abroad. Her works are included in several private art collections in India and abroad.
